… A MAJOR HEADACHE!
First both Java and it’s plugin package (version 1.5) are installed, but Firefox can’t find them. Install version 6 of both: Firefox still can’t find them. Versions in conflict? Weird, cause APT did not complain. No matter, remove the old (1.5) -> Still no change. Reinstall version 6. Nope, nothing at all. Begin to despair. Try to directly symlink plugin (*.so) to plugin dir (fond memories of Gentoo suddenly surface in my mind…) -> NO FIREFOX PLUGIN DIR??? (no ~/.mozilla/plugins folder… wtf??)
Despair at full throttle.
Find “the solution“.
Yap, it appears that all the stuff that used to go in ~/.mozilla/plugins now goes in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins (makes one wonder on how to set user specific plugins…)
Anyway, eventually I found the .so residing in /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.06/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so, so from here on all I had to do was symlink this file to the directory above mentioned, and that was it.
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins# ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.06/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so .
What a mess to do something so simple…
